Dirk van der Wels experience embraces work in prospect evaluation, reservoir evaluation, applied geo-statistics and evaluation of probability for discoveries on the Norwegian continental shelf and also internationally. He has worked on a number of oil and gas fields, siliciclastic as well as carbonate reservoirs. He graduated in geology with mineralogy at the University of Oslo in 1974.
The rock in his hands is from a pegmatite in the Iveland-Evje area in southern Norway with quartz and feldspar as the main minerals and beautiful apatite crystals. The rock sample represents Dirks initial career in industrial mineralogy as well as it represents the source of the prolific sandstone deposits on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
